Market Research on a Budget
Market Research is the study of groups of people that you would like to sell your products or services to. Spending time to do Market Research minimizes risk and often improves your chances of success.
Researching your target market can provide you with sound and objective data. The problem is that market research can be extremely expensive. So how can you do the research if you are on a tight budget? Low-cost market research is not impossible, let me show you how.
First off, let's consider the things we need to look for when conducting our market research. Your target market should have at least four common characteristics. They are:
1. My target market has a particular need.
2. My target market has enough money to purchase my products or services.
3. My target market has decision making power.
4. My target market has access to my products and services.
In order to determine these characteristics you must spend time researching and asking yourself the following questions:
* My customers have a particular need. What is that need?
* My customers have enough money to buy what I am selling. Who needs and can afford what you are offering?
* My customers have decision making power. Who has the authority to say yes to what I'm offering?
* My customers have access to my products and services. How accessible are my products or services to my target market?
Where Should You Begin Your Market Research?
First Resource: Secondary Research
The best place to start looking for secondary research is online. Visit association web sites that are aligned with your industry. If you are in the consumer industry, visit the government agencies because you will find all kinds of consumer information on their sites. A great resource that you won't want to miss is the U.S. Census Bureau. Keep in mind that secondary research is not done for you, so some of the information and answers may not be applicable to you. Whoever it was that commissioned the study had their own questions that they wanted to get answered. The information you will find might be in the ballpark but not on first base.
Second Resource: Your Customers
Put together a questionnaire and have your employees ask prospects, customers, vendors, and suppliers to complete it. A couple of questions you could ask are:
* Do you like our products or services?
* What are we doing right?
* What could we improve?/This method of research also works very well when visiting trade shows. Take a walk around the hall and spend time listening to people's conversations and ask questions. Spending time doing this helps you gain insight to what your competitors are doing.
This method of research also works very well when visiting trade shows. Take a walk around the hall and spend time listening to people's conversations and ask questions. Spending time doing this helps you gain insight to what your competitors are doing.
You can also conduct:
1. Open-ended interviews with your customers.
2. Surveys
3. Focus Groups
Third Resource: Comparable Markets
Look for other comparable markets and share the expense of a study. Remember you want to do this with comparable markets but not competitors. For example, if you are a copywriter, find a company that does print advertising. Once you find someone, sit down and decide what information would be beneficial to the both of you and hire someone to do the study.

How to enhance your PC's speed
How to enhance your PC's speed
When you bought your new PC it was fast. A huge improvement over the old machine. But just a year later the PC has slowed down dramatically. The time taken to start has increased from a few seconds to several minutes.
Shutting-down now takes forever. Loading programs and saving documents has become very slow. What has caused your PC to become so slow so quickly and what can you do to enhance its speed?
PCs running under the Windows operating system slow down very quickly for a number of reasons.
Data fragmentation
As files are added and deleted on your machine, file fragmentation takes place. Think of a brand new pack of cards. All of the hearts are together and in sequence. If you need to access the 8, 9, 10 and Ace of hearts, it is a very quick process to find them. But once the cards have been shuffled, the process becomes much longer.
Spyware, Tojan Horses and viruses
If you machine does not have anti-spyware software installed, there is a 99% probability that your computer is infested. It can happen within a few seconds of connecting an unprotected machine to the Internet. Trojan Horses operate just like Trojan horses in ancient Troy. They conceal themselves within your system work their and start working their evil. Many anti-virus and anti-spyware packages do not deal with these effectively. Viruses do more than just slow down your machine. They could render it unusable!
The start menu
Many programs installed on your computer load into memory at start-up whether you se them or not. The more programs that load, the slower the machine.
Windows Registry
Windows maintains a registry of programs that are added and removed. It does this badly, so that the registry often does not reflect reality. As programs are added and removed, the registry tends to become somewhat corrupt.
The pre-load
Every time windows loads a new file or program, it adds the details into a prefetch file. This is loaded into windows every time it starts. Windows tries to find all the files. It takes longer when they are not there.
Temporary files
Windows may try to load the many temporary files that it creates into memory at start-up.
Missing networks
Windows searches for every network defined in the system at start-up.
A variety of solutions can be tried to speed up your machine, but before you get taken in by some of the offerings on the Web, remember that many of these are bogus. Products are advertised as free solutions. After downloading and running the software you are presented with a massive report of over 300 problems. If you then buy the free product, you will get a key that unlocks the code to fix your machine. It is unlikely to make any difference! If you fall for these solutions you will usually be wasting your money.
A variety of programs masquerade as anti-spyware packages. After downloading, it reports that your machine has 1281 spyware threats. You have to pay to remove these threats. Many of these packages are Spyware or Trojan installers. Apart from trying to get you to part with your hard-earned cash, they can cause considerable damage to your system. Investigate before downloading anything. A Google search will normally tell you what you need to know.
The packages mentioned below have all been tried and tested.
Run Windows defrag.
Select this from the control panel and select each hard drive separately. If your drive was very fragmented this may be all that is required to speed-up your machine. If you have not defragmented your machine recently, this could take several hours. Run the defrag regularly and it will only run for a few minutes each time.
Use a Registry cleaner.
Registry Mechanic works well. Try the 30 day evaluation version. A clean registry should help to make your PC run faster.
Advanced Windows Care
This is a freebie from IOBit.com. It examines your system for a variety of problems and fixes them. This may help to improve performance. IOBit also have a free defragmentor that runs on your machine and constantly monitors file fragmentation.
Windows Defender
This is standard in Windows Vista and may be downloaded for free from the MSN download page for Windows XP. This is the Windows' free spyware remover. Use it in addition to another anti-spyware package. In addition to the scanning facility it has some useful tools that include Software Explorer. This allows you to see what is running on your computer and gives you control over the programs that are loaded at start-up. Many programs load at start-up and remain resident in memory constantly. They can become a major drain on machine resources, and it is usually better to remove all but the essential ones. Don't try to remove anything that you are not sure of.
Trojan Remover
This will eliminate Trojans. I used the fully-functional evaluation version to save a machine that could not be used. The problem was solved.
Free Disk Space
Check your free disk space. Windows prefers at least 25% of the hard drive to be free space. This may sound ridiculous, but it is true. Ideally, purchase an external USB Hard drive to store your videos and music and to back up your machine. The more free space on your machine, the faster it will run. Uninstall any unwanted programs. All those programs that you have installed and never use should be removed. They use up space and resources. WIndows' Disk Cleanup can be used to to remove temporary files,
Windows prefetch
Clear the Windows prefetch file. Get detailed instructions for this from the Web. It will speed-up your start-up.
Anti-virus software
Install a good anti-virus program. Avast have an excellent free program for home use. It works better than some of the premium anti-virus packages!
Remove unused networks
Remove any unused network references. Go to Control Panel, Network connections, and remove any networks that you no longer use.
Additional hardware
Windows is very memory hungry. RAM (the memory that a PC uses) has become relatively inexpensive. Most PCs are able to accommodate a limited amount of RAM, but it is a good idea to upgrade to the maximum possible for your PC. This will probably provide a major boost to your PC's speed. If you have used most of the capacity of the hard drive, then consider buying an external hard drive to store your pictures, music and movies. Freeing up your hard drive will enhance your PC's speed.
You have spent the last five hours trying to tune your machine. If it is up to speed, congratulations! You can skip the next section.
If you still have problems, then it is time to reinstall Windows! When all else fails, this is usually the best route to go. To be safe, back-up your machine first! Re-install Windows using the Operating System CD that came with the machine. On some machines the installation files may be on a separate partition of the hard drive. Reinstalling Windows will take between 60 and 90 minutes.
Once the installation is complete, you can download and install all of the updates that have been applied since the last installation (or when you bought your machine). Windows can take care of that automatically.
If your machine is still slow after all of this it may be time for a new machine!
As a last resort (many will argue that this is a better option altogether), replace Windows with Linux! Windows inevitably begins a path of slowing down from the moment you begin. Linux is somewhat more stable and efficient. A variety of Linux options are available the most popular being Ubuntu. Remember that your Windows programs will not run on this platform! There are Linux alternatives available for most applications and many of these are free. For example, Open Office.org is a good office suite available totally free. But be prepared for a major change.

12 tips to enjoy a natural healthy summer
12 tips to enjoy a natural healthy summer
Botox and face lifts, fake claims from quick-fix diets - we've had enough of unnatural images and outlandish goals.
It's time to enjoy the natural side of life. That means appreciating your own (real) qualities, living a natural life, and eating naturally healthy food.
Summertime is the perfect time to enjoy an all-round healthier lifestyle and get back to nature.
* Socialise with friends in the calm, green environment of your garden, rather than packing into a smoky, claustrophobic pub
* Pack a picnic of delicious healthy foods and enjoy it in a shaded grove or on a sunny lawn
* Substitute one can of soda or sweetened drink a day for still or sparkling water, which helps keep skin glowing and promotes good health
* Tune in to the animal kingdom by going horse riding, going on long walks with your dog, taking your kids to the zoo, or visiting a natural science museum
* Go row boating on a local lake or river for a change of scenery and some exercise
* On your morning commute, take a different route to get a different view of the world
* On your evening commute, get off a stop early and walk home
* Turn off the TV half an hour earlier to get some more sleep, or designate one night as TV free and spend time talking with loved ones instead
* Throw away the hairdryer, hairspray, and curlers one weekend and enjoy the natural look
* Skip the full face of makeup one Saturday and let your skin breathe
* Skip your usual takeaway and try out a simple new recipe using natural ingredients
* Grab a frisbee, a croquet set, or a football and get active with friends
And during this season when nature is flourishing around us, make sure you're thriving too by putting the right things into your body. That means ditching the chemicals, the additives, and the artificial ingredients. Danone Shape invites you to make the most of summer with its new range of yoghurt. Each pot is free from artificial sweeteners, preservatives, and colourants and is packed with only natural flavour, while still being very low in fat. It's the natural choice to looking and feeling great

Honey The Perfect Natural Beauty Product
Honey The Perfect Natural Beauty Product
Honey may well be one of nature’s most perfect products. It has nutritional value, containing lots of vitamins and minerals including B6, calcium, copper, iron, manganese, magnesium, niacin, pantothenic acid, phosphorus, potassium, riboflavin, sodium, thiamin and zinc.
It is packed with antioxidants and assists the human body in absorbing and retaining both calcium and magnesium, which can be helpful in building a strong immune system.
* Honey as medicine
Many cultures have used honey for medicinal purposes. Some use it as a healing paste for dealing with the pain of arthritis. Some oriental cultures use honey in their tea to help reduce the amount of bad cholesterol. Some believe in its ability to soothe sore throats and treat common head colds, and others that it can help with upset stomachs, indigestion, and even gastroenteritis and diarrhoea. There is also evidence that honey has cleansing properties to keep the human body healthy and in tip-top working order all year round.
* Honey for your hair
Honey will also have a positive impact on both hair and skin. It contains natural humectants to help attract moisture to the hair, making it a very valuable tool in treating dry and damaged hair. Adding honey in with any hair conditioner can increase the efficiency of the conditioning product, allowing it to better penetrate into the hair shaft to both moisturize and soften it.
To improve the elasticity of the hair, mix honey together with buttermilk for a luxurious rinse that leaves hair feeling soft and looking beautiful. Another hair treatment involves honey mixed with olive oil; used in that way, it adds incredible shine to tresses and makes the hair much easier to manage. A mixture of honey and lemon juice can also be used to naturally lighten hair over a period of time without damaging the hair.
* Honey for your skin
Honey is equally good for the skin. It wasn’t uncommon in ancient cultures for it to be used in bathing, Cleopatra often mixed honey in with her milk baths to keep her skin soft, supple, and beautiful. She also used honey on her face for its natural moisturizing qualities, sometimes mixing it with nuts in order to produce a natural facial scrub to remove dead skin. Mixed with certain fruits, honey is also a great toner, leaving skin glowing and looking its healthy best. Mixed with cornstarch, it works as an astringent to get rid of pimples and subsequent minor infections.
* Anti-microbial
Because honey has anti-microbial properties, it can be used to treat sunburn, rashes, and other minor skin irritations. It not only helps to heal the irritations, it also soothes skin while fighting against the signs of aging, all the while leaving skin with a beautiful, healthy glow. Honey is even good for treating cuts and skin punctures, aiding in tissue regeneration and reducing scarring. Because it inhibits the growth of bacteria as well as fungus, honey makes a great product to use for athlete’s foot as well.
These anti-microbial qualities also make it useful in dental care. When mixed with cinnamon, honey helps to combat bad breath and is even used to help treat minor tooth pain. On its own, honey combats the growth of plaque, naturally reducing acid production and killing other forms of bacteria that can inhabit the mouth.
* The perfect natural beauty product
Universities and science labs continue to explore honey’s ability to ward off or cure hundreds of different ailments, so in the future we may have even more uses for this fantastic natural substance, a near perfect beauty product for the human body both inside and out.

How to Fit Exercise Into Your Busy Schedule
How to Fit Exercise Into Your Busy Schedule
Make a commitment - even a small one - to exercise seven days a week. Begin with 20 minutes of activity every day; this can be broken down any way you need it throughout the day.
# Step 1
Try walking, biking or skating to work. If this takes longer than your usual commute, plan ahead: Pack your briefcase and lay out your clothes the night before. Remember to have an extra set of clothes at work for a quick after-commute change, if necessary.
# Step 2
If an alternate commute is impossible, get off the bus a little earlier and walk the rest of the way, park at the far end of the lot or take the stairs instead of the elevator.
# Step 3
Make use of your lunch break. Play a quick game of racquetball, make a speedy gym visit, go for a jog or take a brisk walk (use some light hand weights for a bonus workout).
# Step 4
Stretch at your desk. This reduces muscle tension, gets your circulation moving and prepares you for more strenuous activity later.
# Step 5
Do some chores. Mow the lawn or rake the leaves for 20 minutes. Housework burns calories, and you have to get the work done anyway.
# Step 6
Play games with your kids. Shoot some hoops, play some hopscotch or toss a ball.
Tips & Warnings
* New moms can join an aerobics class specially designed for moms and their babies. You can network with other moms, stay fit and keep an eye on the baby.
* Enlist the company of a buddy - you can support and motivate one another.
* Carry around a notebook and keep a record of your activities and their duration. As time goes on, increase the amount of exercise per day.

1. Connect your iPod to a computer.
2. Open iTunes.(if it doesn't open itself)
3. Click the iPod icon in the Source pane.
4. Click the Summary tab.
5. For most iPod models (excluding iPod shuffle): Select "Enable disk use" or "Manually manage songs and playlists". Either of them will allow you to use iPod as a drive. If you choose "Manually manage songs and playlists", iTunes won't automatically update iPod with the iTunes library. If you want iTunes to automatically update your iPod, choose "Enable disk use" .
For iPod shuffle: Select the "Enable disk use" checkbox and set the Storage Allocation slider to indicate the space you want to be used by audio files and the space you want to be used for data files.
6. The iPod disk icon appears on the desktop and in Finder windows, and in My Computer in Windows. Double-click the icon and drag files to or from iPod's window to copy them.
7. Make sure to eject iPod before disconnecting it from your computer. The iPod display will say "Do Not Disconnect when disk use is enabled" so you won't forget.
Copy songs from iPod to Computer
With default settings, iTunes automatically copies the media in your library to your iPod. When you use your iPod as a hard disk, you can't see the media iTunes copies to your iPod in the Finder or My Computer. Using the Finder or My Computer, you can't copy these media files from your iPod back to iTunes or to any other computer.
The synchronization between your iPod and your computer is one way: from iTunes to iPod. The exception is the transfer Purchases feature, which allows you to restore purchased iTunes content to your computer from your iPod.
If you've erased the iTunes library on your computer, there's no way to use the Finder or My Computer to copy the media from your iPod to rebuild the library on your computer. One way is to encode the songs from your CD again, then sync your new library with iPod. If you bought content from the iTunes Store and didn't back them up, you won't be able to download them again. You'll have to buy new copies.
Tips: If you plan to connect iPod to another computer, make sure not to sync it with the iTunes library on the other computer. This will only happen if you selected the Enable Disk Use option instead of manually managing music.
If you use your iPod as a disk with a Windows PC, keep in mind that the FAT32 file system can only accommodate files that are smaller than 4 gigabytes. No matter how much free space there is on your iPod, you can't copy files that are larger than that.

How To Set Hair With Curlers
How To Set Hair With Curlers
With curlers, there are two different ways you can go, with heat or without it. I will briefly outline some steps to take while doing either process.
If you use heat, be it curling iron, hot rollers or foam rollers, make sure that you don’t follow the non-heat method of, “Wet your hair, then use a fine tooth comb to get out knot”, if you wet your hair and use heat, you will burn your hair!
The danger with heat is the over use of heat that can damage your hair, you have to make sure that you are using a strong conditioner that will revitalize and strengthen your hair so that it can withstand repeated heat treatments. If you are going to use the heat method, be sure to apply a conditioning spray. Use a “no frizz” or heat shielding conditioner when using a curling iron or heated rollers.
When you are about to set your hair with curlers, use clips first to divide your hair into sections so that it’s easier to work with. The best place to start is at the back, pulling your hair into sections that are the right size for the kind of curls you want. For big curls use the big curlers with the hair about two inches across.
For smaller curls, of course you need smaller sections. Now divide the back, both sides in the front and in the back of your ears so that it’s easily accessible.
Once you have done that, separate each area for curling by first taking a comb and using it to divide into a fine top layer. Now, starting with the ends, wind the locks over the curler. The locks must be wound evenly and fastened securely with a bobby pin – if you are going for an even look, use the same size curlers all over the head. For layered hair, to achieve a tapering style use big curlers on the sides and back and little ones for the top and the front parts.
Wrap the hair around the curlers, now do it again for the rest of the hair in the section, now you can go to the sides of the hair, making sure it’s firmly wrapped. Make sure your hair is totally dried out, and don’t touch the hair or take out of the curlers until your hair is completely dry, so make sure you give yourself enough time for the hair to dry thoroughly.
With hot rollers, make sure the hair is completely cooled, then use a light hairspray or set with gel and before removing the roller spray it with gel for longer lasting curls. Now, gently remove the curlers, going from bottom to top. Run your fingers through your hair to comb, but don’t comb too much or you will lose the ‘bounce”. Now gently use your fingers to shape your hair the way you want it, spray, and you’re away!

How should parents encourage their child to eat
How should parents encourage their child to eat
We all know that a healthy, varied diet is important for our child's growing needs. But what should you do if your child turns up his nose at just about everything.
Offer your child a wide variety of foods, he will get a balanced diet. It is better for him to eat something that he likes even if you disapprove of it than to eat nothing at all.
If your child refuses to eat fruits and vegetables, try to make them more tempting or more fun, but do not camouflage a detested food by mixing it with something else. The child should eat because he wants to and for no other reason. Encourage your child to feed himself.
- Serve food that is fresh and presented in an attractive way.
- Create a mealtime that is pleasant and relaxed.
- Talk about food; this may encourage a child to eat. Whenever possible, allow children to choose from one or two items on the menu (for example, a choice of peas or carrots for vegetables).
- Give your child the same food you eat.
You should be careful that the child is not overweight. Overweight kids are more likely to remain heavy as adults. This can lead to any number of health problems.
Your child should eat a more balanced diet. Start by setting a good example. If other members of your family commonly eats lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy products, your kids will learn to eat a good diet. Kids tend to copy their parents, so if you eat well, they are more likely to eat well too. Do not get angry and do not panic if the child refuses to eat. If you are concerned about your child's dietary intake, talk to your doctor or a dietician. Put less on your child's plate and praise your child for eating even a little. Try to make meals enjoyable and not just about eating. Limit snacks and drinks between meals. Drinking too much liquid can lessen your child's appetite. This will help ensure that your child is hungry enough to eat solid foods. Do not overfeed. Obesity in children is rarely recognised by parents and is a major health problem.
Children's tastes change. One day they will hate something and a month later they'll love it. Fussy eaters are often slow eaters who dawdle over their plate. It is pointless trying to hurry them. Do not lose your cool at dinner. Simply remove the uneaten food.
If you find that these techniques are not working, there are people who can help. A registered dietician who specialises in children's nutritional needs can assess your situation and provide strategies for dealing with a picky eater.

How Do I Know If My PC Is Infected With Spyware or Adware
How Do I Know If My PC Is Infected With Spyware or Adware
Many people that are new to the Internet world are nervous about the potential of viruses, Spyware or Adware that can harm their computer, affect performance or make their very private information public to others.
Spyware programs can do a number of damaging things to your personal computer.
Spyware infects your pc and hides in the background and can do many nasty things to the performance of your system. It can also do harmful things to you such as send out your personal information, your every keystroke and photo that resides on your hard drive, watch your surfing habits and shopping habits and annoy you with annoying pop-ups filled with advertisements and even pornography.
If you are experiencing any unusual changes in your computer's performance or have any unusual new pop-ups, changes to your toolbars or new icons on your desktop, you should run a system scan to find out if you have Spyware. Products exist on the market to help you combat this problem. Be sure to install software that you know is credible. Downloading freeware can often result in further Spyware existing on your computer. Spyware, Adware and Malware companies frequently fool users into sending pop-ups telling them that there's a problem with their computer and this in fact is further spyware. These errors can open your system up to future further problems by fooling people into thinking they're downloading fixes when really further spyware is being downloaded.
Watch your system's performance and at the sign of any unusual activity, realize that you are probably infected. Do something as soon as possible to protect your privacy. These programs don't discriminate and can launch themselves when you or your family members sit in front of the computer. Pornographic pop-ups can turn up whether it's an adult or a child using the computer. Protect your pc.
Antivirus alone isn't enough to combat this problem. Spyware sneaks into your system via executable files that you don't need to do anything to launch. They can sneak in as attachments that you download or by many other means. They're harmful and annoying but you can protect your computer and your privacy with the right software. This software needs to have an auto update for spyware definitions as new spyware definitions are being added daily. So a spyware removal program is a great compliment to your existing anti-virus software.
Total Innovations, Inc. specializes in developing award winning software programs designed to solve computer users needs. The spyware removal software, http://www.emailspy.com & http://www.folderhider.com are a few of the most recent. See full details at: http://www.spyblaster.com

10 Places NOT to Use Your Debit Card
10 Places NOT to Use Your Debit Card
Debit cards have different protections and uses. Sometimes they're not the best choice.
Sometimes reaching for your wallet is like a multiple choice test: How do you really want to pay?
While credit cards and debit cards may look almost identical, not all plastic is the same.
"It's important that consumers understand the difference between a debit card and a credit card," says John Breyault, director of the Fraud Center for the National Consumers League, a Washington, D.C.-based advocacy group. "There's a difference in how the transactions are processed and the protections offered to consumers when they use them."
While debit cards and credit cards each have advantages, each is also better suited to certain situations. And since a debit card is a direct line to your bank account, there are places where it can be wise to avoid handing it over -- if for no other reason than complete peace of mind.
Here are 10 places and situations where it can pay to leave that debit card in your wallet:
1. Online: "You don't use a debit card online," says Susan Tiffany, director of consumer periodicals for the Credit Union National Association. Since the debit card links directly to a checking account, "you have potential vulnerability there," she says. Her reasoning: If you have problems with a purchase or the card number gets hijacked, a debit card is "vulnerable because it happens to be linked to an account," says Linda Foley, founder of the Identity Theft Resource Center. She also includes phone orders in this category. The Federal Reserve's Regulation E (commonly dubbed Reg E), covers debit card transfers. It sets a consumer's liability for fraudulent purchases at $50, provided they notify the bank within two days of discovering that their card or card number has been stolen. Most banks have additional voluntary policies that set their own customers' liability with debit cards at $0, says Nessa Feddis, vice president and senior counsel for the American Bankers Association. But the protections don't relieve consumers of hassle: The prospect of trying to get money put back into their bank account, and the problems that a lower-than-expected balance can cause in terms of fees and refused checks or payments, make some online shoppers reach first for credit cards.
2. Big-Ticket Items: With a big ticket item, a credit card is safer, says Chi Chi Wu, staff attorney with the National Consumer Law Center. A credit card offers dispute rights if something goes wrong with the merchandise or the purchase, she says. "With a debit card, you have fewer protections," she says. In addition, some cards will also offer extended warrantees. And in some situations, such as buying electronics or renting a car, some credit cards also offer additional property insurance to cover the item. Two caveats, says Wu. Don't carry a balance. Otherwise, you also risk paying some high-ticket interest. And "avoid store cards with deferred interest," Wu advises.
3. Deposit Required: When Peter Garuccio recently rented some home improvement equipment at a big-box store, it required a sizable deposit. "This is where you want to use a credit card instead of a debit," says Garuccio, spokesman for the national trade group American Bankers Association. That way, the store has its security deposit, and you still have access to all of the money in your bank account. With any luck, you'll never actually have to part with a dollar.
4. Restaurants: "To me, it's dangerous," says Gary Foreman, editor of the frugality minded Web site The Dollar Stretcher. "You have so many people around." Foreman bases his conclusions on what he hears from readers. "Anecdotally, the cases that I'm hearing of credit or debit information being stolen, as often as not, it's in a restaurant," he says. The danger: Restaurants are one of the few places where you have to let cards leave your sight when you use them. But others think that avoiding such situations is not workable. The "conventional advice of 'don't let the card out of your sight' -- that's just not practical," says Tiffany. The other problem with using a debit card at restaurants: Some establishments will approve the card for more than your purchase amount because, presumably, you intend to leave a tip. So the amount of money frozen for the transaction could be quite a bit more than the amount of your tab. And it could be a few days before you get the cash back in your account.
5. You're a New Customer: Online or in the real world, if you're a first-time customer in a store, skip the debit card the first couple of times you buy, says Breyault. That way, you get a feel for how the business is run, how you're treated and the quality of the merchandise before you hand over a card that links to your checking account.
6. Buy Now, Take Delivery Later: Buying now but taking delivery days or weeks from now? A credit card offers dispute rights that a debit card typically does not. "It may be an outfit you're familiar with and trust, but something might go wrong," says Breyault, "and you need protection." But be aware that some cards will limit the protection to a specific time period, says Feddis. So settle any problems as soon as possible.
7. Recurring Payments: We've all heard the urban legend about the gym that won't stop billing an ex-member's credit card. Now imagine the charges aren't going onto your card, but instead coming right out of your bank account. Another reason not to use the debit card for recurring charges: your own memory and math skills. Forget to deduct that automatic bill payment from your checkbook one month, and you could either face fees or embarrassment (depending on whether you've opted to allow overdrafting or not). So if you don't keep a cash buffer in your account, "to protect yourself from over-limit fees, you may want to think about using a credit card" for recurring payments, says Breyault.
8. Future Travel: Book your travel with a check card, and "they debit it immediately," says Foley. So if you're buying travel that you won't use for six months or making a reservation for a few weeks from now, you'll be out the money immediately. Another factor that bothers Foley: Hotels aren't immune to hackers and data breaches, and several name-brand establishments have suffered the problem recently. Do you want your debit card information "to sit in a system for four months, waiting for you to arrive?" she asks. "I would not."
9. Gas Stations and Hotels: This one depends on the individual business. Some gas stations and hotels will place holds to cover customers who may leave without settling the entire bill. That means that even though you only bought $10 in gas, you could have a temporary bank hold for $50 to $100, says Tiffany. Ditto hotels, where there are sometimes holds or deposits in the hundreds to make sure you don't run up a long distance bill, empty the mini bar or trash the room. The practice is almost unnoticeable if you're using credit, but can be problematic if you're using a debit card and have just enough in the account to cover what you need. At hotels, ask about deposits and holds before you present your card, says Feddis. At the pump, select the pin-number option, she says, which should debit only the amount you've actually spent.
10. Checkouts or ATMs That Look 'Off': Criminals are getting better with skimmers and planting them in places you'd never suspect -- like ATM machines on bank property, says Foley. So take a good look at the machine or card reader the next time you use an ATM or self-check lane, she advises. Does the machine fit together well or does something look off, different or like it doesn't quite belong? Says Foley, "Make sure it doesn't look like it's been tampered with."

Top 10 Workout Tips
Top 10 Workout Tips
1. Get on a good, general workout.
2. Begin! Start if you haven't, start again if you've stopped.
3. Know what you are training for (objective, goals).
4. Train consistently, regularly.
5. Train hard but wisely.
6. Know what to leave out of your training.
7. See nutrition as part of your training, not something apart (and vice versa).
8. Individualize your training.
9. Learn and apply what you know and learn.
10. Experiment and change.
Workout Tip 1. Get on a good, general workout. There are plenty of good routines,
basic or otherwise, which you can use to make progress. Most of these are neither
deep secrets nor are highly innovative, but are those which have produced good
results for many drug-free trainers when applied with reasonable effort. A routine
doesn't have to be perfect, ideal, or the ultimate routine to work. It simply has
to be good to be productive.
Workout Tip 2. Begin! Start if you haven't, start again if you've stopped. Reading,
studying, thinking and planning about working out can be good, but sometimes, it's
just procrastination in disguise. "After I straighten out my (fill in the blank
with anything) in two (weeks, months, years), I'll start working out (again)."
We've all gone through this; there are legitimate things in life that prevent
working out, then there are excuses. You have to be your own judge of this.
Sometimes, if you just begin (or return) to your workouts, other problems will take
care of themselves and you'll figure out what you need in training as you go along.
Workout Tip 3. Know what you are training for (objectives, goals). Most times, it's
better to have, at least eventually, some idea of why you're hitting the gym for
these workouts. Goals, objectives, reasons-call them anything you like, but if, as
an example, you know you want to gain ten pounds in six weeks, this energizes your
training and gives you something to shoot for, keeps you focused, rather than the
vague, "Gee, I guess I'll work out today." Strong desires and motivations help
immensely in bodybuilding, or training for any purpose, and are far superior to
drifting.
Workout Tip 4. Train consistently, regularly. Many will say when they hear or read
this, "I already know that. Tell me something about training I don't know." Yet
often these people don't train consistently enough or regularly enough, something
which for all but the most gifted, is essential to progress. This consistent,
regular approach to training sometimes requires several years to reach goals. Doing
this, not just knowing this, is what's required.
Workout Tip 5. Train hard but wisely. Use your intelligence when you train. If you
have nagging injuries or low energy, don't take a super-hard workout. Back off, go
lighter, do less, or rest completely. Don't struggle with poundages which are
beyond you to handle at your current strength level. Beware of following a
professional's workout, or training so hard that you can't recover or, even worse,
you injure yourself. Common sense is essential for longevity and success in
bodybuilding, so use your head and train with appropriate effort, not a killing
effort, for what you are trying to do.
Workout Tip 6. Know what to leave out of your training. Sometimes knowing what not
to do is much more difficult than what to do. Leaving out unproductive exercises,
or certain principles and techniques, may sometimes be what you need to improve
your training. Leaving stuff that never works for you out of your workouts is a
positive principle, not a negative one.
Workout Tip 7. See nutrition as part of your training, not something apart (and
vice versa). Many will say, "nutrition is the most important aspect of
bodybuilding" (some have said it's the least), or will assign percentage values to
its importance. It's better to see nutrition & training as allied, married,
inextricably together, partners which instead of twin masters, are two connecting
pathways to help you arrive at your bodybuilding destination. Otherwise, you're
like the centerfielder in baseball who only cares about his hitting, not his
fielding, or vice versa. Bodybuilding has two major components for participants:
training and nutrition. Excel at both.
Workout Tip 8. Individualize your training. There are many good, general workouts
to select which will be appropriate for any stage of your training. As good as
these may be, the workouts that are always the best, the most result producing, are
the ones which may begin as a template but which you eventually modify, adapt and
change so they become even more suited to you. The best workouts are the ones which
become your own.
Workout Tip 9. Learn and apply what you know and learn. Some people train without
learning very much about what they are doing. In bodybuilding, you better have been
born a virtuoso with enormous genetic potential if you are to have any success with
that approach. Others learn quite a bit, yet never seem to apply or understand what
to do or when they need to apply what they learn. You can always learn more; you
can always learn to apply more of what you learn to your bodybuilding.
Workout Tip 10. Experiment and change. Some people never seem to develop a
consistent way of working out. Others slavishly stick to the same routines,
nutrition, even when they are getting little or no results. In the days before
drugs, years ago, all training was essentially experimental. The pioneers of
bodybuilding from the Muscle Beach days and before were basically inventing the
sport, the training, nutrition and everything else as they went along. They were
creative and they learned. Learn, try new things. Experiment with workouts,
exercises, techniques, sets and reps-you may come up with something that uniquely
benefits you. You may even come up with something new and creative that contributes
to better bodybuilding for everyone.

Simple Tips to Motivate Yourself to Exercise
Simple Tips to Motivate Yourself to Exercise
You know you need to work out,but you are having trouble
getting up the enthusiasm.
How do you find motivation to exercise when you
just dont feel like getting off your but.
I ask myself this question every now and then, and I have the feeling Im not the only one.
There are a million ways to motivate yourself to exercise, actually, but these are a few that have worked for me.
* Have fun. If you hate running, dont go to the track for exercise. Find something you like. The list of different kinds of exercises are nearly endless. The only really important thing is to get your body moving and your heart rate up.
* How you feel after a workout. I always feel great after a good workout. Its a high. And I let that motivate me the next time.
* Calories burned. If you count calories (and its really one of the most effective ways to lose weight), you know that the more you exercise, the more calories you burn — and the bigger your calorie deficit.
* How youre going to look. Imagine a slimmer, fitter you. Now let that visualization drive you.
* Change it up. Even if you have a routine you enjoy, mix it up from time to time. Try entirely different exercises. You can check out a tape at the library and try yoga or kick boxing for an afternoon. This will not only keep you interested, it will break your muscles out of their routine and help produce better results.
* Get a buddy. Exercising with a friend introduces a positive kind of peer pressure. You will be more likely to go to the gym if you know someone is waiting there for you. Talking and laughing while exercising will also keep you from being bored.
* An exercise log/graph. For some reason, writing it down is extremely important. Really. Do it for a week and youll see what I mean.
* Get appropriate clothing. If you dont have the appropriate clothes for the exercise, it can be irritating, uncomfortable, frustrating, or even unsafe. If you exercise outside after dusk, be sure you have reflective clothing to prevent traffic accidents. Also be sure the clothing looks nice; if you dont like the way your clothing looks, you may feel uncomfortable, and less likely to exercise.
* Pack Ahead of Time. An iPod, athletic shoes, a towel whatever. Walking around the house trying to find stuff is a good time to lose your resolve. Put everything together in your gym bag. When you finish working out, take out things that need to be laundered and replace them immediately.
* Have a Goal. What do you want to achieve? Make it specific, make it meaningful, make it obtainable. Be sure to have short-term benchmarks along the way. Its OK to change your goals if the original plan doesnt work, but have a goal. Regularly evaluate how you are doing on your goals.

* Success stories. I find the success stories of others incredibly inspirational. If a fitness website has success stories, Ill almost always read them.
* Reward Yourself. Have a healthy reward when you reach a goal. B

Tips to Burn Fat Naturally
Tips to Burn Fat Naturally
How fast the body burns calories has a direct impact on how easy or how hard it is for one to lose weight and a sluggish metabolism can make weight loss incredibly difficult.
While metabolism is largely determined by gender and heredity, there are activities one can do to speed metabolism and burn fat naturally.
* Eat Breakfast
Skipping breakfast can cause the body to go into "starvation mode" to conserve energy, slowing metabolism and thereby decreasing calorie burn. Kickstart metabolism for the day by eating a balanced breakfast consisting of a combination of lean protein, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats.
* Drink Water
Dehydration causes metabolism to slow down, and studies show those who drink eight to 12 8-ounce glasses of water per day have a faster metabolism than those who only drink four glasses. Drinking ice water may provide an extra boost in calorie burn as the body works to warm the water to its core temperature.
* Sip Green Tea
Research suggests the ECGC found in green tea can boost fat burning and those who drink two to four cups per day burn up to 50 more calories. Studies also show that those who drink three to five cups of green tea per day see a weight loss of 4.6 percent in just 12 weeks.
* Build Muscle
Muscle burns fat and building muscle means burning more calories throughout the day, even while at rest. Beginners can start building muscle by strengthen training two to three times per week using free weights, resistance bands or by doing exercises that use body weight as resistance, such as pushups, lunges and tricep dips.

How to Create More Storage Space in Small Living Areas
How to Create More Storage Space in Small Living Areas
Most articles that offer tips on ways to increase living space and create extra storage areas are written specifically for multi-room houses
But, what about storage for small space ideas; for persons living in a tiny house, apartment, or kitchenette?
The following tips are quick easy ways to increase space saving storage areas.
Invent Extra Kitchen Storage
Even kitchens have extra space waiting to be discovered. For instance, a custom made insert that fits into the top rim of the kitchen sink quickly produces an extra 2 feet or more of meal preparation space. It could be made from wood, covered with Formica that either matches or compliments the color of the counter.
If you don’t want to invest in a custom made insert, measure your sink and shop around for a wood cutting board in the appropriate size. One with a slot at one end would enable you to drain off liquids. It would also provide a handy grip for removing the cutting board when you needed to use the sink.
Hang pots, pans, and larger utensils from racks along the wall or behind the stove to free up cupboard space that could be used for storing small appliances when not in use. Or, to create more space for kitchen pantry items.
An extra shelf under the kitchen sink doubles the amount of storage space available, quickly and effectively. A narrow plastic-coated utility shelf attached to the inside of a cupboard door can hold detergents, furniture polishes, sponges, scrubbers, dust cloths, etc.
Wall shelves are another great idea for creating space saving storage in the kitchen. Small shelves along walls to hold spices and herbs; larger shelves are great for mixing bowls, cookbooks, small appliances like crock pots, and dry food items in boxes.
Maximize Personal Storage Space in the Bedroom
Custom made wood bins, old dresser drawers or plastic storage bins on wheels are perfect for stowing linens, quilts, extra pillows, and out-of-season clothing under the bed and out of the way. This helps to provide more personal storage space, and frees up closet space.
A narrow bookcase in the middle of a bedroom closet, up against the back wall, will help utilize closet space to its max. Hang clothing on either side of the bookcase. Folded sweaters, casual wear, nightclothes, lingerie, and shoes can be kept on the shelves.
See-through plastic bins arranged on the top shelf of the closet can hold gloves, scarves, hats, and other accessories. This keeps everything in the closet neat, orderly and easy to access. It also omits the need for a space-eating chest of drawers in the bedroom.
Create Cubbyholes Anywhere in the Home
One other storage for small space idea; cubby holes can be created in “blank walls;” a wall made of drywall board nailed to a framework of 2X4 studs. Finish the cubbyhole off with paneling or wood that has been sanded and painted. Or, use custom-cut mirrors; top, bottom, and sides. This will help brighten a small room and make it appear more open.
A cubby hole by the front door would be a great place to keep keys, gloves, hats, and mail ready to be sent off. One situated low on the wall near the sofa or an easy chair would be perfect for stowing TV, video, and CD player remotes, reading glasses, magazines, or a small reading lamp.
A wall cubby hole in the bathroom creates more storage space for bath and hand towels and washcloths; neatly rolled up and piled one atop the other. One in the office on a wall beside the desk would be a great place to keep office supplies, freeing up desk surface space.
Custom doors for the cubbyholes could be made and attached with hinges, or the storage areas could be left open. Another idea would be to make a door from a framed picture on hinges: the picture would swing open to reveal a secret hiding place.
Incorporate Space Saving Features Into Your Home Renovation Plans
When planning on a home renovation or remodeling project, why not incorporate some of these space saving storage ideas, and others, into your plans? Whether you do-it-yourself or aquire the services of a professional contractor, extra cost and time requirements will be minimal.
HandyCanadian.com has service professionals on standby, waiting to bid competitively on your home renovation, remodeling project. To help turn your too-small house or apartment into a more charming dwelling. One with ample storage space and a little left over.

10 tips for beautiful skin in the summer
10 tips for beautiful skin in the summer
Summer requires a special skin care regimen and
extra protection from the sun's harmful UV rays.
Follow these 10 steps to beautiful, healthy, moisturized summer skin.
When you're in the midst of battling parched winter skin, it's easy to forget that summer presents its own skin challenges. Summer offers a reprieve from forced dry heat and lack of indoor humidity, but skin faces a different challenge during the summer. Exposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun can wreck life-threatening havoc in addition to causing skin to age prematurely.
Spring offers the very best environment for skin. Its moderate temperature range and the high humidity from April showers can lull you into complacent neglect toward skin care. Spring's optimal conditions provide your skin with a welcome rest between struggling to retain moisture during the arid winter months and the assault of the summer sun. When the temperature heats up and you start spending more time outdoors, it's time to rev up your skin care regimen again.
As the dog days of summer approach, the key to beauty from the inside out is to lighten up. As your mood lightens from extended daylight hours, it's time to lighten up on work, clothing, food and beverage, and lotions and potions. Follow our tips below, and pay special attention to the sun prevention tips and tricks.
* Beauty begins on the inside. During the summer months, trade your heavy stews and soups for lighter fare, including grilled fish and fruit salads. Retire the hot chocolate in favor of iced green tea, and say goodbye to the hot spiced rum for a few months, replacing it with a cool, refreshing wine spritzer or frozen fruit daiquiri.
* Summer signals the beginning of increased activity, which causes you to lose moisture through perspiration. Drink water before you feel thirsty. Once you feel thirst, you're already slightly dehydrated. Carry water with you everywhere, to eliminate the possibility of drinking tap water.
* Chlorine doesn't play nice with skin, hair and nails; it leaves them dry, brittle and flakey. It adds an additional load to your body—another chemical for your body to assimilate and eliminate. Wash off chlorine as soon as you step out of the pool or hot tub. Add a water filter to your shower to trap chlorine and other chemicals. You'll notice a difference in your skin within a few days.
* Apply creams and lotions with a high Sun Protection Factor (SPF). Lightweight summer clothes don't completely block the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays. In fact, lightweight clothing offers very little SPF—usually around 8. When you spend concentrated time in the sun, apply a water-resistant or waterproof sun block, and use a sun block with zinc on your face. Reapply often. Even with sun block, you'll get some color in the summer. Until you do, fake it with one of the many self-tanning lotions on the market. Whatever you do, don't attempt to get a suntan the old-fashioned way. Wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your hair from the sun and to provide additional protection to your face.
* If you work in the garden, apply protection against insects, and reapply as necessary. Not only will you avoid unsightly bite marks and annoying itching, but you might also avoid debilitating disease. Don't take unnecessary chances. If the thought of applying DEET to your body makes you shudder, apply one of the natural insect repellants containing citronella and other natural essential oils. When you get bitten, avoid the urge to scratch. Scratching only intensifies the itching sensation, and it can lead to infection and scarring.
* Grow an aloe plant. They're impossible to kill, even if you have a brown thumb. Having immediate access to an Aloe plant is like having a drugstore in your backyard. Break off a leaf and apply the gel on the inside to provide instant relief from sunburn, insect bites, burns from outdoor grilling, and minor skin irritations. Keep another plant in the kitchen for burns. Nothing works as quickly as Aloe to stop the pain.
* Lighten up on your facial moisturizing routine. Instead of dry flakes, your skin faces eruptions from clogged pores during the summer. Clean your face meticulously, several times each day if necessary. Switch to a lighter moisturizer with fewer emollients. Consider a tinted moisturizer to eliminate the extra layer of make-up foundation. If you have good skin, show it off during the summer instead of hiding it under layers of concealer, foundation and powder. Allow your natural radiant skin to shine through without obstruction.
* Hands and feet require special care in the summer. Keep nails short to enjoy summer sports activities. You don't want to interrupt a set of tennis to repair a broken nail. You may get calluses from gardening and racquet sports. Exfoliate hands and feet regularly, and don't lighten up on rich, emollient hand and foot creams, because parts of the hands and feet contain no oil glands. If you visit the beach, take a long walk on the beach. No manmade treatment equals the exfoliation power of feet pounding against sand. Walk long enough, and your feet will sport a baby soft finish.
* With your legs exposed during the summer, you may tire of daily shaving. Consider one of the sugar-based wax formulations. It may take several applications to master the technique, but after a few false starts, the efforts are worth the learning curve. The advertisements will entice you with a month or more of hair-free soft, baby skin. If you get two weeks of silky smooth skin, consider yourself lucky. Follow-up each waxing session with a moisturizer containing aloe to avoid skin bumps.
* If your winter lip balm didn't contain sun protection, make sure that your summer lip balm does. Chapped lips are annoying, but sunburned lips are painful! Reapply often, particularly when you're on the water in an open boat or riding in a convertible. Wind is just as damaging as sun, and the two together ensure a bad burn for unprotected skin. ur summer lip balm does. Chapped lips are annoying, but sunburned lips are painful! The Risks and Benefits of Drinking Coffee
The Risks and Benefits of Drinking Coffee
these days, more and more people
drink coffee for different reasons.
The effects of drinking coffee
have been long researched.
* Is it only a habit people have in the morning?
* Is it for the taste?
* Is it a way of socializing?
* Or, are people aware of what effects coffee actually has such as a few cups of tea when we are sick or have a cold?
* Do people know when to stop drinking coffee?
What is the recommended daily amount of coffee one should have, just as we know that refilling our tea cups more than three times per day can have no negative effect?
Drinking coffee may present some risks. But, there are also a lot of benefits that come with this drink. For example, when it comes to illnesses, coffee may prevent the development of gallstones, cirrhosis, type two diabetes or Parkinson's disease because of the antioxidant contained in the beans.
Norwegian experts have discovered that serving brewed coffee in a typical way Coffee provides more antioxidant that raspberries, blueberries or different kinds of fruit juice. Also, according to specialists at Harvard, coffee may have an effect on cardiovascular problems. The smell of coffee may also have a calming effect, although this aspect has been experimented only on rats. Therefore, the consumption of coffee seems to be good both for the mind and the body.
However, the fact that coffee has a number of benefits for its consumers does not mean that it should be consumed in extraordinary and exaggerated quantities. This is when the risks of drinking coffee usually show up. Coffee does not function in the same way as tea, which can usually be consumed over and over again with little risks. Using your tea cups at work and at home any time you have the chance can only be good for your body, but coffee doesn't work the same way.
According to specialists, one should one consume one or two cups of coffee daily, not taking into consideration the milk or sugar added. Any amount of coffee more than this recommendation may lead to dehydration or to extremely elevated blood pressure because of the amount of caffeine. For pregnant women, too much coffee can have very unpleasant effects, such as the loss of the baby. Also, because of the cafestol levels it contains, unfiltered coffee leads to higher cholesterol. This is a detail consumers should pay attention to.
All in all, drinking coffee can come both with risks and benefits. The line between the two being drawn on the amount of coffee one consumes on a daily basis. Therefore, coffee is good for us when not consumed excessively, but moderately.
