US Mint silver eagle coins sale get early 2012 boost

The top seller on the collector front was the 2011-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle. 4,941 orders were added to its total, bringing it to 230,343. The boost was likely due to the silver coin's lower price of $45.95.
WASHINGTON(BullionStreet) : The US Mint said silver coins sale for the new year got off to a better start as 2012 Silver Eagle bullion sales climbed another 175,000 after starting the new year at 3,197,000, which moved the new total to 3,372,000.
The Mint said some of those orders, however, included leftover 2011-dated strikes.
As for the bullion coin's December total, it stayed at 2,009,000. So, 2011 wrapped up with 39,868,500 in Silver Eagle sales, just 131,500 short of the 40 million milestone. Still, 39+ million went down in history as the highest annual sales record for the 25 year old series of .999 fine silver coins.
Demand for silver coins was augmented due to their price reductions on December 27. The Uncirculated American Silver Eagle, which had its price cut by $5, jumped forth 4,941 to 230,343. Each of the four America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins had their prices chopped by $25.
Their weekly sales improvements ranged from 25% to 133%. Of note, the Mount Hood five ounce coin could sell out at any moment since a scant 431 of the minted 27,000 remained as of Tuesday.

Right behind the Uncirculated Silver Eagle was the 2011 Silver Proof Set. Collectors picked up 4,573 of them in this round, as well as 1,746 of the 2010 Silver Proof Set. The prices for the sets did not change last week when the silver coin prices dropped, which is probably why these two sets had slower sales. In the prior week, collectors took in 4,997 and 2,823 of them.
Also reduced in price (-$25) were the four available America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins honoring Olympic National Park in Washington, Glacier National Park in Montana, Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania and Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon.
Each of the uncirculated coins showed week-over-week sales improvements. The Mount Hood coins could sell out at any moment, given just 431 of the 27,000 remained available as of Tuesday.
The launch of the first 2012 silver numismatic product, the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set, is less than one week away with a scheduled release of January 10, 2012
