Best Makeup Looks at New York Fashion Week 2012-2013
est Makeup Looks at New York Fashion Week
The variety of makeup looks on the runway for
New York Fashion Week
were anything but monotonous. Incorporating a designer’s unique inspiration gave each Spring 2012 fashion show its own distinctive flair. Check out how some very talented makeup artists created these exceptional looks.
1.
Peter Som
Tom Pecheux for M.A.C. ran with Peter Som’s colorful Spring 2012 collection, mixing classy and trashy. There was a definite 60s influence in the eye makeup application with its strong emphasis on shading the crease. Pecheux then left the face almost bare with pale, rosy cheeks and lips.
2.
Carolina Herrera
Diane Kendal for M.A.C. created the feature-enhancing makeup look at Carolina Herrera’s Spring 2012 fashion show. The sheer, spare application of neutral-colored blush, shadow and lipstick wasn’t meant to make a bold statement, it was simply meant to complement a woman’s natural beauty.
3.
Prabal Gurung
Charlotte Tilbury for M.A.C. created the sensual, yet powerful makeup look for Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2012 fashion show. She drew her inspiration from the bright, dramatic colors and lively florals Gurung used, adding matte lipcolor that ranged from black on the inner lips to fuschia around the lip line. The bold lips were balanced by the soft, dewy skin and sheer washes of color swept across the eye lids.
4.
Rebecca Taylor
Rebecca Taylor cited some artwork from the Louvre as part of the inspiration for her Spring 2012 collection. Sil Bruinsma for M.A.C. created a makeup look that brought pale, watercolor landscapes and the Impressionists’ pastel palettes to mind. A range of soft-hued shades that ran the spectrum from icy blue to apricot were swept across lids while cheeks and lips were given only a whisper of sheer, rosy color.
5.
Thom Browne
Thom Browne claimed that Paris in the 20s was the inspiration for his Spring 2012 collection. His vision was interpreted in the makeup design through exaggeration. Tiny, Clara Bow lips and kohl-rimmed eyes added to Browne’s surreal aesthetic, helping characters from the silent film era suddenly come to life.
